What Needs a Building Permit?

The following is a list of common items that require a building permit. It is not all inclusive. Please contact the Building Inspector or the Clerk-Treasurer's office if you are unsure if your project requires a permit.

  • New homes (New Home application checklist (PDF))
  • Adding a deck
  • Fences
  • Installing a concrete walk, driveway, patio or slab
  • Interior remodeling of kitchen or bath
  • Garages or other accessory buildings
  • Replacing a furnace or installing air conditioning
  • Replacing windows or doors
  • Replacing siding
  • Replacing shingles

What Doesn't Need a Building Permit?

There are a variety of things that do not require a permit. Again, please contact us if you are unsure.

  • Any project less than $500
  • Replacing carpeting or other flooring
  • Putting in a concrete block patio or replacing a concrete walk or driveway
  • Other minor repairs
