Assessment Information

The Village of Howards Grove contracts with Grota Appraisals for all assessment services. If you have questions about your assessment, please contact Les Ahrens at 262-253-1142. To view the current assessment roll on-line, go to www.assessordata.org. Once there, pick the appropriate county (Sheboygan) and then you can either enter a property address or tax parcel number. The site will then give you a listing of the property in question but also adjacent properties.

Open Book

Each year, prior to the finalization of the assessment roll, the Village conducts an "Open Book" session. This is an opportunity for you to informally meet with the assessor, review the value of your property, and the value of neighboring properties, and to notify the assessor of any errors in the description of your property. If an error has been made, the assessor can make a correction at the Open Book. Open Book is held in the spring, anytime from April to May. View the most recent Open Book notice (PDF).

Board of Review

If you have concerns about the value of your property that are not resolved by speaking with the assessor, you may appeal your assessment at the Board of Review. The Board of Review is required to be held starting the fourth Monday in April to the first Monday in June, and is a five-person Board, comprised of the Village President, Village Clerk/Treasurer, and three additional Trustees.

To view the most recent notice of Board of Review (and to see the guidelines for appearing before the Board of Review), please click here. The agenda for this Board of Review meeting can be accessed online.

To appeal your assessment, you must first attend the open book and discuss your issues with the assessor, if you are not satisfied with the outcome you are then able to fill out the objection form. Please complete the Objection Form for Real Property Assessment. If you wish to appeal your personal property assessment, please complete the Objection Form for Personal Property Assessment. Return the form to the Village Clerk/Treasurer at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled start of the Board of Review. You must provide at least 48 hours notice if you wish to appear before the Board, or your request can be denied.

For additional information on the Board of Review process, please contact the Clerk/Treasurer at 234-0304.
